Job description

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Confers with customers by telephone, e-mail, or in person to provide information about products or services, book and enter loads, and obtain details of complaints.
  • Quotes and negotiates freight rates with customers.
  • Communicates quoted rates and work orders to dispatchers, drivers, and other relevant employees.
  • Plans movement of deck freight within Canada and the United States.
  • Monitors driver and equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules and minimize empty miles.
  • Maintain constant communication with customers, drivers, management and fellow employees to ensure complaints and conflicts are identified and resolved.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of freight markets and pricing.
  • Checks to ensure that appropriate changes were made to resolve customers’ problems.
  • Updates and modifies shared load schedule spreadsheet.
  • Nurtures customer relationships by resolving issues or complaints and provide great customer service.
  • Consults customers regarding the customs and border crossing processes and the most efficient ways of constructing or loading freight
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, with relevant post-secondary education preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of industrial sales experience required, with experience in the transportation industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of freight and transportation markets is required.
  • Must be moderately technologically inclined, with the ability to utilize various transportation programs (i.e. AXON, Shaw Tracking, LSD finder, etc.).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Effective time management skills required.
  • Excellent oral and written comprehension skills required.
  • Strong collaboration skills with various cross-functional Q-Line staff is required.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills required.
