JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you want to join a team where you research, develop, evaluate and disseminate workplace health and safety instructional products, to assist WorkplaceNL in fulfilling its education and awareness mandate? Then we would love to hear from you! WorkplaceNL administers an injury compensation system for workplaces in Newfoundland and Labrador. We promote safe and healthy workplaces, as well as provide return to work programs and benefits to workers and their dependents.

As an Instructional Designer you will collaborate and consult with key stakeholders during the product development cycle. You will conduct appropriate gap analyses in education programming; assess learning best practices; develop products using leading technologies; and evaluate learning outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conducting needs analyses to identify training needs, in consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Using educational theory and best practices for classroom and online learning and teaching, to design and develop educational programs and instructional materials that meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Contributing to the development of certification standards, workshops, webinars, curricula, e-learning courses, instructional materials and learning resources.
  • Designing and developing evaluation tools to evaluate health and safety curricula.
  • Recommending program and curricula enhancements.
  • Liaising with subject matter experts and clients to ensure accuracy and relevance of content of training.

What success looks like in this role

  • Partnering and collaborating to develop and deliver educational and training programs to better protect workers from safety and health risks.
  • Promoting more accessible, innovative and flexible training options, while ensuring the highest standards of training; including the use of podcasts, interactive web-based tools and mobile applications.
  • Contributing to a strong Safety Culture in Newfoundland and Labrador

Your Background and Experience

Educational requirements:

  • A university degree, or diploma, from an accredited post secondary institution; with major course work in instructional design, curriculum development, education, and/or business.

Work experience:

  • A minimum of one year of instructional development and design experience in a training environment; preferably in health and safety education.
  • Experience developing instructional material for many modes of delivery, including: e-learning, webinar and classroom environments.

Knowledge-based requirements:

  • Proficiency in using instructional design technologies, including: e-learning software, learning management systems, graphic design software and audio-visual equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the workers' compensation system, as well as occupational health and safety and applicable OH&S legislation.

Soft skills:

  • Demonstrated, excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational ability to prioritize assignments, coordinate multiple projects and monitor progress of task completion.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, but also as part of a team with project management responsibilities.

Experience and an educational equivalency may be considered.
