Intake and Assessment Coordinator

Full-time, Term until March 6, 2026

Who we are:

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country.

With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Mamisarvik Healing Centre Program delivers Inuit-specific treatment for trauma and substance use disorders. Professional, confidential, non-judgmental recovery and healing services are provided to Inuit 18 years of age or older. Mamisarvik also provides day and residential treatment programming.

What are we looking for:

The primary focus of the Intake and Assessment Coordinator is to provide most accurate and timely assessments for potential clients. This position is responsible for the initial contact with all clients of Mamisarvik and acts as the key point of contact for clients and applicable outside agencies until clients are receiving treatment.

What you will be doing:

  • Assessing potential clients including interviewing and assessing the clients’ personal history and current circumstances with the purpose of determining suitability for Mamisarvik’s treatment program.
  • Completing a summary and recommendation report based on client information gathered from SAR’s (Service Access to Recovery) treatment recommendation and the application package.
  • Preparing a briefing package and summary of potential clients for the clinical team before each treatment cycle.
  • Supporting and responding to clients in distress and/or managing delicate interpersonal issues.
  • Supporting clients by working with community partners to resolve medical, legal, housing, and financial issues that are barriers to treatment.
  • Maintaining current and accurate confidential records of client files in Mamisarvik’s case management system and attending to related requests for documentation in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Creating and maintaining a waitlist for prospective clients for the Mamisarvik treatment programs.
  • Assisting clients with the completion of their application package for treatment.
  • Coordinating travel arrangements for clients outside of Ottawa when required.

What you’ll need to be a successful candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices. Will have knowledge of addictions, bio-psycho-social-spiritual influences and effects of dependencies and the range of treatment options.

Excellent interpersonal, active listening, critical thinking, communication, analytical, and organizational skills are necessary.

The ability to work within a team environment, maintain confidentiality, ensure client privacy, use computer applications (word processing, case management system, e-mail, and internet) and meet attendance requirements is essential.

A post-secondary degree in social work, counselling, addictions, human service management, or another related field and two years of related professional work experience is preferred. Certification in CPR and training in Crisis Prevention and Intervention, Suicide Prevention and Intervention, Safe Food Handling and other related training are assets. A valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract acceptable to TI is required.

The ability to communicate in Inuktitut is preferred.

An acceptable combination of related education and work experience may be considered.
