Intake Resource and Referral Worker

Permanent Full time position – 35 hours per week

January 2024

Salary: $53 004 (plus full benefits, pension, starting with 4 weeks holidays)

Description of Responsibilities

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Intake Worker responds to all requests and provides crisis intervention, short-term support, and support groups/workshops. The incumbent assesses client needs, provides information, advocacy and refers to other services, if necessary.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Intake worker is engaged in community liaison, education and outreach services on issues and programs offered at the Centre. The person identifies the needs of the community from a program planning and development perspective. The incumbent ensures case consultation with staff and community members.

The responsibilities of this position are:

  • Assess and respond to all client requests
  • Provides crisis intervention services in person, virtually, and by telephone
  • Prioritizes client’s needs based on urgency/severity and complexity of circumstances
  • Provides short term intervention support
  • Informs and refers clients to the appropriate services
  • Liaises with emergency services providers
  • Advocates on behalf of the individual/family in order to ensure that the clients receive community support, health, social, legal, financial and recreational services as required
  • Consults with Centre staff and other services in order to develop a comprehensive service plan when appropriate
  • Facilitates support group/workshops
  • Monitors service trends and gaps for program planning and development
  • Mobilizes and coordinates appropriate resources to respond to the need
  • Provides accompaniment services to clients, when required
  • Participates in community development or projects (committees, groups, etc.) as agreed by the Centre
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary documentation and statistical records related to the position.
  • Participates as an active member in staff meetings and staff development.
  • Participates as an active member in internal EORC committees and external community based committees.
  • Supervises student placements as required.
  • Performs other related duties.

Qualifications

  • BSW, or degree in another related discipline; will also consider diploma from a post secondary institution with relevant experience
  • Minimum of two years experience in a community-based social service agency as a front-line worker
  • Demonstrated counseling and short term crisis intervention skills
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources (of Ottawa East and South an asset)
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to maintain high quality, client centered services through superior organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs and issues faced by diverse and marginalized groups such as poverty, mental health and violence
  • Non-judgmental and egalitarian attitude
  • Ability to work and function as a member of the Intake, Resource and Referral Team and the larger Centre team
  • Excellent oral and written English and French is , Somali and Arabic a strong asset.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends
