Job description

Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for our client in Ottawa, ON. 

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include liaising with clients and consultants to define project scope under the supervision of a Senior Engineer/Designer, documenting and communicating project details to in-house design team members, coordinating electrical requirements with senior mechanical Engineer/Designer, and collaborating with various stakeholders such as clients, architects, and interior designers. You will also be tasked with preparing drawings using our office CAD system and adhering to project schedules. 

The ideal candidate should possess a Diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology or a related field, have 5 or more years of experience in building services, 5 or more years of proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit, and hold a valid PSPC Security Clearance or the ability to attain it.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review project plans, requirements and budgets in order to assist senior engineer in determining client’s needs and provide value engineering.

  • Provide interdisciplinary coordination and information sharing with in-house electrical department and project engineer, as well as other consultants.

  • Design clear, concise project layout & system drawings and plans using AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Verify drawings and plans for compliance with applicable regulations, contract specifications and engineering principles with respect to HVAC, plumbing, utilities and fire protection through system analysis and familiarization with products.

  • Adhere to standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, OBC and NFPA in all design work.

  • Verify measurements, materials specified, and locations for placement of components.

  • Prepare applications and assemble exhibits for permit approvals.

  • Revise plans and drawings according to comments from regulatory agencies and other reviewers.

  • Modify existing project drawing database to maintain an up-to-date as-built state.

  • Prepare fee estimates and construction cost proposals.

  • Assist with project management, with project engineer’s authorization, including provision of mechanical design services; following the project’s progress from tender issue though construction completion via site surveys, site inspections and client correspondence.

  • Review progress billings and CCO’s from contractor and revisions to plans.

  • Provide system analysis and energy/cooling load calculations.

  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of AutoCAD procedures and office standards.

  • Apply stamp sign drawings and documents, as requested.

  • Obtain high-level security clearance with numerous organizations, as required.

  • Possession of a valid P.Eng. or CET designation preferred.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Technology or similar field. - 5 or more years of experience in building service.

  • 5 or more years of experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit, required.

  • Valid PSPC Security Clearance or the ability to attain it.

  • Possession of a valid P.Eng. or CET designation preferred.

  • Problem solving and critical thinking abilities.

  • Strong understanding of Acts, Codes and Engineering Practices

  • Well-developed understanding of theories and principles

  • Proficient skills in Tools, Methods, Techniques and Practices of the industry
