Job description

What does SSi Canada do?

SSi designs, builds, and operates telecommunications networks in Canada’s North. SSi’s mission is to provide high-quality, high-capacity and affordable broadband connectivity to remote or isolated First Nations communities.

Being the North’s premier broadband and mobile wireless technology company, SSi has been providing Internet service to over 50 remote and underserved communities across the NWT and Nunavut since 2005. Continuing its expansion, SSi is currently deploying and delivering mobile wireless broadband services across the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec.

What will you do?

At SSi you will be part of a group of passionate people who excel at solving complex, real-world problems. You will keep remote and outlying communities vibrant by helping them connect to the world and support their businesses and deliver government services such as remote health care and education.

You will be responsible for purchasing machinery, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, or services necessary for the operation of SSi. You will also have a secondary role in supporting the Logistics team by monitoring and managing delivery schedules so that products arrive on time and in the correct condition.

  • Work closely with Finance to evaluate and monitor contract performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and determine the need for changes.
  • Calculate cost of orders and send invoices to appropriate accounts.
  • Find and gather price quotations from catalogs and suppliers, to create purchase orders
  • Review all purchase requisitions, ensure approvals, and follow up to ensure deliveries on schedule.
  • Maintain purchasing records.
  • Arrange for customs and brokers for payment.
  • Develop and foster an extensive, strong network of supplier partners.
  • Report on supplier costs and performance levels.
  • Keep track of inventory levels as materials, equipment, and stock are distributed within an organization, transferred, or sold to customers, utilizing either manual or computerized inventory management systems.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure that goods arrive on time, and resolve problems related to undelivered goods.
  • Work with the Logistics team to monitor and manage inbound freight (local, national, and international) to improve service levels and reduce costs.
  • Maintain inventory and update for month-end.
  • Investigate stock discrepancies, process inventory adjustments and maintain accurate inventory data.

What do you need?

  • A diploma/degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Business Administration is preferred.
  • Knowledge of purchasing strategies, logistics, warehousing, and inventory management.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a Purchasing role.
  • Experience using Oracle Netsuite Purchasing and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
