What is the Opportunity?

We are looking for an experience Business Manager to supports our Mergers & Acquisitions Group in Investment Banking. The Business Manager will drive achievement of superior business performance and "best in class" managed efficiencies, through supporting the strategic direction and implementation of transformational and sustaining strategies aligned to RBC Capital Market's (RBCCM) operating philosophy. You will have full responsibility for driving the effectiveness of the business operating model by effectively partnering with functional resources including Finance, Risk, Legal, Strategy, Human Resources and Compliance. The Business Manager is fully accountable to the Business for successful achievement of agreed upon goals and objectives, driving a high level of performance, operational effectiveness, and sustainable value creation for RBC shareholders.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for driving financial planning and operational initiatives in partnership with the group heads 

  • Lead and take accountability for recommendations that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the business line

  • Provide recommendations to group head, typically focused on new initiatives around enhanced capabilities or cost management, In alignment with overall Capital Markets(CM)  strategic priorities

  • Ensures business awareness of key projects; securing and providing business approval of aspects of key projects where the business has an approval right

  • Participates in COO and business line updates and events for purposes of integration, shared learning and strategic updates; Act as point of integration for the business line and functional groups.

  • Assists the business heads in the preparation of strategic business reviews, actively engaging with CM Strategy, Finance, Risk and other functions to ensure the review incorporates a holistic view of risk and appropriate financial and risk performance metrics.

  • Develops recommendations in coordination with functional groups, including Operations, Risk, Legal, Human Resources, Finance, and Communications resources  

  • Represents the business in business specific or broader support and cross control function projects

  • Proactively identify operational risks/ control deficiencies in the business.

  • Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly

  • Partners with HR on workforce planning.

  • Ability to establish the necessary monitoring structure and mechanism to drive adherence to control requirements on behalf of the business unit.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA, MA or MS or equivalent; emphasis in finance/accounting preferred

  • Understanding of Investment Banking / Mergers & Acquisitions; Investment Banking experience is preferred)

  • Demonstrated advanced financial analysis skills and experience.

  • Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and speaking skills.

  • Familiarity with compliance & regulatory awareness to support Business Head and liaise with functional areas.

  • Familiarity with operational & financial control and support environments and issues.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Highly motivated, committed and responsible, with a demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests.

  • Ability to take initiative and function independently balanced with strong teaming skills.

  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct.

  • Strategic Business Sense & skilled in setting strategic priorities.

  • Organizational Awareness

  • Demonstrated Change Leadership skills

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $250,000 - $300,000depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.  This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
