Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This is skilled work related to the maintenance of Irrigation Systems. The work involves checking the operation of and performing maintenance on a variety of Irrigation Systems, and performing repair and replacement tasks such as overhauling and rebuilding sprinkler heads and valves. An incumbent checks the operation of and performs routine maintenance on hydraulic, electric automatic and quick-coupling Irrigation Systems equipment such as pipes, connections, heads, hydraulic and electric valves, control units and back-flow valves; makes necessary adjustments to ensure effective and efficient operations and watering schedules. Other responsibilities include determining cause of system failure and takes appropriate action such as locating and repairing leaks, replacing old pipes and filters, cleaning blocked heads; winterizes systems; drives assigned vehicles of up to one-ton capacity used to transport staff and supplies to and from work sites. Provides work direction to subordinates assisting in the maintenance or repair of Irrigation Systems; reads, applies and assists in maintaining a variety of records, maps, blueprints and manufacturers' maintenance manuals related to the work; assists in preparing operational and costing records related to the work. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by technical courses in Irrigation Systems maintenance plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of Irrigation Systems and controls. An incumbent will have sound knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work performed; the ability to perform a variety of Irrigation Systems maintenance and repair tasks and to lay pipe and fittings at the required depth and grade, and to provide work direction to subordinates assisting in the work. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in the work. Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and A.W.W.A. Cross Connection Certificate are required.
