MINISTRY OVERVIEW
Dedicated to making life better for people in British Columbia, the Ministry of Citizens’ Services (CITZ) delivers key services that people rely on. CITZ delivers accessible, multi-channel services, through a single-point-of-contact service approach to people in urban and rural communities through Service BC, and delivers the digital face of government at www.gov.bc.ca. CITZ also provides support for the expansion of high-speed internet connectivity throughout the province, leadership across government to modernize information management and technology resources, trusted data services to government agencies, prompt, and relevant responses to freedom of information requests, and statistical and economic research, information and analysis to businesses and the public sector. In addition, the ministry manages the Province’s real estate assets, technology systems and equipment, and leverages procurement to increase business opportunities and create rewarding jobs that contribute to local economies and benefit individuals, families, and communities.

A service-focused organization, CITZ strives to be a great place to work, where all employees feel both engaged and motivated to do their best.

GDX - DIVISIONAL OVERVIEW

The Government Digital Experience Division (GDX) is responsible for ensuring government services and information are available online through government’s main web presence at www.gov.bc.ca, and that ministry programs and services are informed by the input and experiences of the people in British Columbia.

GDX works to help government understand the informational needs of people in the province, and to help the public find and access the services they need from government. GDX supports people-focused policy development and great service experiences. The division delivers products and services to ministry partners and organizations including design and delivery of public engagement projects, field research with service users, plain language writing of online service information, analytics, and training. It supports the technology of online applications and websites including gov.bc.ca, and the technology that delivers news releases.
CONTEXT

Many teams within GDX rely on Content Designers to deliver inclusive, accessible and equitable content across multiple platforms and channels, like gov.bc.ca and engage.gov.bc.ca. This team supports key government initiatives like CleanBC, child care, COVID-19, the StrongerBC Economic Plan and engagements in environment, forestry and transportation. We take an evidence-based approach to design, working collaboratively with our service design and UX design colleagues to create content that works for all people in British Columbia, often in multiple languages. We champion plain language writing. We’re a diverse team of high-performing professionals, passionate about meeting people where they’re at and designing for them, not us. Our Content Designers have backgrounds in communications, journalism, marketing and copywriting. This is a chance to flex your writing skills.
JOB OVERVIEW

As a Content Designer, your responsibility is to enhance digital service delivery through the creation, publishing and governance of engaging content. In this role, you work closely with subject matter experts and other designers to distill government policy and programs into clear and concise content. This content could live on a website, in a chatbot, within a survey, on social media, in a phone script or on printed materials. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your plain language skills to a variety of topics – from healthcare to education and the environment. You will support content for programs across government with multiple ministries. Your days will include making small web content updates as well as broad, bigger picture content strategy discussions. Your prototyping and user testing skills will grow in this role. You will work as part of a team to complete user research and test new web content with British Columbians. You’ll learn to measure the quality of web content and improve searchability and readability. GDX is a division of people who say “Yes, I’m in!” when a new project or challenge emerges. The pace will be fast. On some occasions, evening and weekend work may be required. Working with a variety of stakeholders and as part of a team should be something that comes natural for you.
