Position Summary

Reporting to the Machine Shop Supervisor, the Machinist will be responsible for HSE & quality initiatives, efficient throughput, training of junior staff members, programming, set-up of CNC machines and measuring equipment as well as optimizing current procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This role is directly accountable for effective throughput and manufacturing of a variety of workpieces. The Machinist will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient programming of CNC machines and will be able to perform necessary quality checks using several different gauges and measuring equipment.

Operations, Safety, Quality

  • Responsible for assisting in HSE and quality initiatives.
  • Effectively writes and proofs CNC programs for parts related to threading and manufacturing.
  • Interprets shop drawings for manufacturing purposes.
  • Maintains service reputation and customer satisfaction both internally and externally with proper and timely job execution.
  • Familiarizes and complies with Force Inspection’s QMS procedures.
  • Complies with Force Inspection’s HSE program and Occupational HSE Regulations.
  • Maintains a professional conduct with internal and external customers.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance of all required equipment is recorded and outages reported in a timely manner.
  • Establishes efficient methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other units.
  • Resolution of problems and provides recommended measures to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Provides information for production plans to ensure that production objectives are met.
  • Reviews and ensures work orders are signed and completed for processing.
  • Train and mentor employees in job duties, work instructions, HSE and quality procedures and company policies.
  • Prepares production reports and other miscellaneous reports as required.
  • Communication with external/internal customers on job status.
  • Support in quality initiatives and the continued progression of the quality program
  • Available to work overtime when required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Journeyperson Machinist Certificate is required.
  • High-school diploma.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Conversational programming knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience operating DMG Mori lathes is an asset.
  • Ability to operate required manufacturing equipment effectively. Being CNC lathes, horizontal band saw, etc.
  • Previous experience with CNC milling is an asset.
  • Ability to read manufacturer’s drawings.
  • API, 5CT, 5B, 5B1, Spec 71/2 knowledge are assets.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical skills are an asset.
  • Well developed problem solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives.
  • Ability to find new methods and principles and to incorporate them into existing practices as needed.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude towards safety and assists in improving safety initiatives.
  • Strong prioritization skills.

This position will be Monday – Friday with occasional overtime or weekends depending on site location needs.
