About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Jr. Controls Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to, working with manufacturing engineering, customers and vendors to design, quote, build, launch and troubleshoot all manufacturing related systems. This is done through the analysis and evaluation of requirements and improvements needed for future business and customer expectations. 

Your Responsibilities

  • Supports PLC interfaces to manufacturing (MES) and shipping systems.
  • Understand and apply basic ladder logic principles, control for I/O, ability to understand PLC commands and HMI usage.
  • Provide support to the operation and maintenance of all shop floor related production equipment and related systems. 
  • Continually strive for process improvements within shop floor related production equipment, which includes but not limited to, PLC applications as they interface with the data collection systems.
  • Responsible for the design, development and installation of new PLC based control systems.
  • Ensure that all Engineering departmental objectives are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter and Magna Corporate Constitution. Must adhere to technical system procedures, quality instructions, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and compliance to all QSS policies and procedures.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Must have a university degree or college diploma in a related technical field.
  • Work experience in an automotive, manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with external and internal teams. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem resolution and project management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fully computerized work environment and be committed to continuous improvement principles.
  • Basic knowledge in the following software packages: Allen Bradley RSLogix5, 500, 5000, Factory Talk View Studio, Allen Bradley Panel Builder32, Fanuc Roboguide.
  • Experience working with shop floor data collection, programming and troubleshooting in robotics and PLC's would be an asset. Allen Bradley and Fanuc experience is an added benefit.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (DeviceNet, EthernetIP).
