As a Junior Recreation Leader, you will assistthe Recreation Leader with all aspectsofprogram leadership and supervision ofparticipantsinchildren and youthprograms. Such programs may include general recreation and/or social programs, special events, and day camp and outdoor programs. Primary duties include:

  • Assist co-leaders and programmers in the development and implementation ofmeaningfulplans and activities.
  • Provide leadershipfor recreational and/or social programs that focus on social and skill-based outcomes.
  • Assistleader/instructor in keeping a safe environment for programparticipants.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies required for activities with daily set up and clean up.
  • Be a role model to youth volunteers and participants.
  • Maintainprogramrecordsandassistwithprogramevaluation.
  • Maintain a highdegreeofcustomerservice.
 
Qualifications 
  • Minimum15 yearsofage.
  • Previousvolunteerorprogramleadershipexperience working with children and planning children's programs, such as volunteering, babysitting, and coaching, will be considered an asset.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have participated in Youth Leadership Coursesand/orHighFive Principles of Healthy Child Development(PHCD) certificationorotheragencyprovidingyouthleadershiptraining.
  • You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate an enthusiastic, positive attitude.
  • You are able to work effectively as a team member and are reliable and flexible.
 
Pre-employment Requirements 
  • Current Intermediate First Aid certification (equivalent to Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level "C", and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)) is required.
  • A valid Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search must be provided. Date of completion must be within the last 12 months.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants may be contacted, interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition.

Location: Various
Compensation: $15.00 - 19.00 per hour 
Days of Work: This position works daytime, evening and occasional weekend shifts.
Hours of work: On call hours will vary based on operational requirements.
