The purpose of this position is to maintain and iteratively improve the Government server computing environment. This environment is the basis of all client facing digital services.

Duties will include:

  • Develop, maintain, debug, test and document infrastructure components and configurations;
  • Install, upgrade, maintain the operation of the government Server and data center environment;
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure components;
  • Work closely with junior technicians, peers, and management to ensure environment consistency and reliability;
  • Maintain acceptable levels of service quality through monitoring andproactive maintenance/upgrades;
  • Prepare technical utilization forecasts and potential impacts and risk mitigations;
  • Continually work to optimize and standardize our existing infrastructure;
  • Compile and update equipment inventories and topology diagrams/documentation;
  • Design and lead implementation of new technologies in our environment;
  • Work closely with junior technicians, peers, and management to ensure security, confidentiality, and availability of Government IT infrastructure;
  • Maintain and apply organizational security practices;
  • Research industry trends and standards, provide recommendations;
  • Advise on hardware, software, and communications components and performance improvements;
  • Assist in the evaluation of server/data center equipment, software, supplies and services;
  • Provide input on specifications for maintenance contracts;
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a university degree or college diploma with major course work in Server Infrastructure;
  • Minimum 2 years of related enterprise-level experience in the IT industry and extensive experience in supporting complex server infrastructure;
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
  • One of the following server-based operating system certification designations within active product lifecycle:Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) designation for Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate, Redhat Certified System Administrator, or Oracle Certified Associate, System 5 and 6 System Administration;
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Server Operating Systems (Such As: Windows Server 2012+, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Oracle Unbreakable Linux);
  • Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise identity management platforms (Such As: Microsoft Active Directory, Azure Active Directory);
  • Ability to assess and analyse client requests and propose effective solutions;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, judgement, dependability, and reliability;
  • Professionalism - desire to keep abreast of trends and developments;
  • Must have access to reliable transportation;

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise backup platforms (Such As: Networker, Veeam)
  • Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise email platforms (Such As: GroupWise, Exchange, Office365)
  • Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise virtual environments (Such As: VMWare, Hyper-V)
  • Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise storage platforms (Such As: HP, EMC)
  • Experience utilizing and authoring Powershell scripts for complex environment administration tasks
  • Experience with the SolarWinds Orion Platform for environment monitoring and reporting
  • Experience configuring and maintaining terminal services platforms (Such As: Microsoft Remote Desktop/APP-V, Citrix Storefront/Presentation Server)
