Position summary:

The role of the Lab Coordinator is to provide Operational support to the Asset with respect to product
specification integrity as well as troubleshooting support during start-up and shut down activities. The
primary focus is on regulatory compliance, product quality assurance, routine solution quality and
water quality assurance for the facility.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all day-to-day sampling and test analysis: includes water, gas & oil.
  • Ensure Lab maintains site HSE standards.
  • Complies and reports non‐compliance.
  • Prepares required reports and maintains complete record keeping procedures.
  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses on industrial discharges,
plant process effluent.
  • Maintain and organize plant logs.
  • Makes operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel.
  • Maintains discipline and ensures proper procedures are followed.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with co‐workers.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Hazardous task analysis on all sampling and test procedures.
  • Develop/maintain testing methods as per The American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM).
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Act as the liaison between the lab, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Participate in loss management programs, including training and safety meetings.
  • Responsible for all annual contractor agreements.
  • Knowledge of Plant Operational Process.
  • ISO 14001 awareness.

  • Provide Technical support to site operating and maintenance personnel.

Education and work experience (minimum requirements):

  • Chemical Laboratory Technology diploma preferred or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in sour gas facility.
  • Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant
operations.
  • Experience in sour gas, water, and condensate sampling.
  • Shipment of samples as per TDG requirements.
  • Operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological
and chemical sewage analyses.
  • Understand effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment
processes.
  • Safe work practices and programs.
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel,
Outlook, data management systems and ability to operate plant PLC’s and SCADA systems.
  • Three years’ experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants an asset.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with personal protective equipment use in Oil and Gas industry considered an
asset.
  • Knowledge of Personal and Process Safety requirements.
  • Skills in communication, negotiation, and time management.
  • Skills in coaching, leading by example, facilitation, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Awareness of HSE assurance, leadership, and adherence to requirements of lifesaving rules.
  • Skill in applying knowledge of appropriate regulations and operating approval requirements
within License to Operate.
  • Awareness of the asset Community commitments and the requirements to ensure
compliance.
  • Knowledge of key work processes such as Operations Integrity, Permit to Work, Management
of Change, and Management of Threats & Opportunities.
  • HS Alive training, TDG, WHMIS, Standard First Aid training.
