About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Community Based Laboratories Technical Manager and working collaboratively with the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) management team and medical staff, the Technical Supervisor is responsible for the efficient, timely, cost-effective quality driven operation of the laboratory services at the Tri-facilities (Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, and Musquodoboit Valley Regional Hospital). Primary areas of responsibility include blood collection services, and Point of Care Testing (POCT). The Technical Supervisor supervises laboratory operations at all locations, travelling between sites to ensure a visible onsite presence, regular interactions with front line staff, site leaders/healthcare staff and responding to POCT or patient issues/concerns. The Technical Supervisor will be required to support laboratories at other community laboratories, as required (example vacation coverage) including travelling to sites to ensure active, visible management. Ensures the provision of accurate test results to healthcare providers by effectively deploying and supporting the technical staff. The Technical Supervisor:
-Performs administrative functions such as scheduling, time capture and approval of overtime and vacation
-Supports and coordinates recruitment, training, performance evaluations and management
-Ensures that equipment is properly serviced and maintained
-Consults with, collaborates, and responds to patients, healthcare providers, inpatient units, site leadership and external clients regarding delivery of services
-Participates in leadership meetings and implements quality improvements as it pertains to PLM
-Oversee POC testing and supports nursing staff as required
-Ensures there are sufficient and appropriate materials available for specimen collection, processing, transportation of specimens and POC testing
-Ensures high standards of technical and safety procedures by constant evaluation and monitoring
-Informs decisions about the most efficient use of financial, human, and material resources while meeting operational needs and working within the appropriate policies and financial budgets
-Participates in short- and long-term planning for areas of responsibility, including planning for new, revised or expanded service
-Makes objective and respectful decisions consistent with policies, standards and objectives of the laboratory in an environment that involves consideration of patient safety and future needs of the organization
-Demonstrates good stewardship in the identification, reporting & mitigation of unsafe Acts or conditions
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
-Graduate of an accredited program in Medical Laboratory Science
-Must be licensed with NSCMLT
-Certification with CSMLS is required
-Medical Laboratory Technologist with four (4) years progressively more responsible experience in a laboratory, plus completion of a management program or commitment to successfully complete a management program in three years and/or a combination of education, training and progressively more responsible experience
-Previous management experience and direct supervision of staff in a laboratory setting is strongly preferred
-Has demonstrated leadership capabilities within the laboratory
-Excellent organization and decision-making skills
-Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential
-Previous experience in preanalytical including blood collection and POCT preferred
-In-depth knowledge of Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS)
-Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives
$36.33 - $48.28 hourly
