Department Information

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Job Information

The incumbent reports to the Manager of Negotiations and Compensation and is responsible for coordinating and supporting Labour Relations activities and processes. The timely coordination of Labour Relations files and processes as well as communication with the Unions impact directly on employee morale, the credibility of the organization and the relationship between the GNWT and the unions. The incumbent manages a variety of activities designed to enhance the provision of education, learning and development services to senior managers, managers, and employees.

We are seeking a client service-oriented individual with proficiency in standard office procedures and software applications including spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and word processing. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective interaction with various stakeholders ranging from senior managers to technical staff and union representatives. Additionally, the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and solve problems efficiently while adhering to deadlines is essential. Knowledge of labor relations, employment law, and human resource functions is required, along with a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, and workplace safety.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A relevant diploma coupled with 2 years of experience in human resources.
