Labourer OUTDOOR Retail Garden Centres Tri-Cities Area

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Outdoor Retail Garden Centre Labourer is responsible for supporting the Lead Merchandiser with unloading TSC Nursery Sales trees, shrubs and perennial plants at OUTDOOR Retail Garden Centres in key locations: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Langley.

The job setting is an OUTDOOR Retail Garden centre. If you enjoy working outdoors, surrounded by plants and getting a great physical workout while you’re working then this seasonal job might be for you!

This position is typically from April through August. The weekly hours range from 0 to 40, depending on weather and on sales. The peak season (and busiest time) is May through to July. We have part-time and full-time seasonal job openings available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Receiving Deliveries of Plants

Pushing and pulling shipping carts to the appropriate locations in bench and pallet display areas of the outdoor Garden Centres.

Using a pallet jack to move pallets of shrubs and trees.

Unloading shrubs, trees and perennial flowers from shipping racks onto display benches and pallets in the outdoor garden centre.

Assisting the merchandising co-workers with placing plants in specific areas of the garden centre.

Other Duties

Other duties may include:

- moving empty carts to the parking lot area for easy pick up by nursery drivers.

- Clearing, condensing, and moving plants in advance of delivery days in order to make room for new shipments of plants in the Garden Centres.

QUALIFICATIONS

Safety-Minded: proven history of working safely in a workplace, showing consideration for the safety of self, coworkers and garden centre customers.

Reliability: proven ability to commit to the job and motivated to support team members.

Teamwork and Working Independently: working well with co-workers to create a smooth, enjoyable work experience, and willingness to work independently when necessary.

Communication: ability to understand verbal instructions, and confidence to ask questions if more clarity is needed.

Time Management: ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to work productively during fast-paced times and during slow times.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• This is a very physical job! Must be able to lift 50 lbs alone or team lift up to 100 lbs.
• Must own and wear SAFETY TOE BOOTS AT ALL TIMES when in the garden centre.
• Must be able/willing to work OUTDOORS--during hot sunny weather and cool rainy days.
• Must have reliable transportation to/from the Retail Garden centre; including appropriate vehicle insurance.
• Must own a smartphone.
• Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
• Must observe and follow safety protocol at all times.

Salary: $19.00 to $21.00 / hour DOE (depending on experience, reliability and performance)

Contract length: 4-6 months

Salary: $19.00-$21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
