Landfill Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Landfill Attendant, this position is responsible for receiving materials at the landfill site; collecting appropriate fees and issuing receipts; directing refuse/recyclable material to the appropriate areas; performing general maintenance duties, as assigned.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Visually inspects materials being deposited by users of the Landfill site and ensure materials are placed in the designated location.

• Determines the fees payable; collects fees and issues receipts.

• Ensures that all services are performed in a safe manner and in compliance with provincial safety legislation (e.g. Ministry of Labour and the Occupational Health and Safety Act).

• Performs general maintenance duties at the Landfill Site including grounds maintenance, as assigned by the Landfill Attendant.

• Accompanies users to the scrap areas to ensure no unacceptable items are discarded and to provide assistance unloading items, as required.

• Ensures that waste delivered to the landfill is placed within the designated "footprint" in a manner so as to minimize the operating face.

• Relieves the Landfill Attendant during periods of absence.

• Performs other duties, as assigned

Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 6 months

Salary: $16.70-$20.29 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
