Lead Software Developer

Location: Waterloo, ON. Canada Hybrid role  (in-office Tues, Wed and Thurs only)

 

The Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lead Software Developer to work on a variety of Cyber Security and Data Protection database projects that process and provide data for end users and in-house threat research web-based applications / APIs. This role provides a lot of technical creativity, and an opportunity to embrace the latest technologies to create efficient, and highly scalable solutions, using the best-fit stack for each requirement. As well as our main Microsoft SQL Server systems, candidates will have the opportunity to work with and learn exciting Amazon Web Services based relational (RDS) and NoSQL databases for ‘Big Data’. This role will work with multiple teams within the business, including Threat Researchers, API Developers, and Product Managers, on a range of projects to continue to support and develop our leading Cyber Security and Data Protection products.

 

What You Are Great At:

· Designing, building, and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable data stores

· Leading projects in terms of architecture and planning of data storage / retrieval systems

· Working side by side with the Software Development Team in ensuring best practices are followed for data security

· Ensuring the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of data stores

· Helping maintain code quality, organization, and automation

· Mentoring of other developers

· Proactively recommending and leading improvements to the Full Development Lifecycle

 

What it takes to excel:

· 7+ Years experience in designing and implementing data stores

· Very strong in TSQL / SQL

· Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server

· Extensive experience creating Indexes, Stored Procedures, Views, and Triggers (TSQL)

· Experience with the Amazon Web Services cloud platform

· In-depth knowledge of database technologies architecture, and data security.

· Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

· Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· An aptitude to learn new technology quickly

· The ability to handle multiple streams of work effectively

· Familiar with using Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM and Kanban

· Proficient understanding of code source control versioning tools

 

Other Desired Qualifications / Experience:

· Experience of other SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)

· Experience of ‘Big Data’ stores (HIVE, Presto, ElasticSearch)

· Familiar with NoSQL databases

· Experience with Data Analysis and Business Intelligence

· Worked with very high load APIs and applications

· Experience working within a BDD methodology
