Lead Security Officer

APC-CUPE Local 500

Full-Time Permanent

Shifts: Twelve (12) hour shifts, rotational - including day and night shifts with some variation based on operational needs. Some overtime may be required to fill coverage needs.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking for one (1) Lead Security Officer whose primary responsibilities will be to provide onsite shift leadership and decision making as it relates to security for Park assets, together with safety for visitors and staff. Officers will ensure that the Park and Zoo has available a wide range of professional proactive and reactive security services which include: crime prevention strategies, conflict resolution, problem solving, investigational assistance, emergency medical response, crisis intervention, educating and enforcing of Park and Zoo regulations and monitoring and reporting on provincial and federal statutes.

Lead Security Officers will follow all APC guidelines and established policies and procedures. In doing so they will not take any adverse personal safety risks in the course of duty, while protecting APC’s assets and Image. Lead Security Officers will demonstrate critical thinking.

Qualifications:

  • Must currently hold a valid Security Guard License in Manitoba
  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver License
  • Intermediate technology and computer skills. Proficiency with appropriate computer programs for record keeping and administrative tasks
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C recognized by Labour and Regulatory Services – Workplace, Safety and Health
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalency

What you will need to have:


  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Security Officer or equivalent.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels in a team environment with a minimum of supervision.
  • Previous experience or education in a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of computer programs including Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • Willing and able to act as a trainer and leader in a working capacity.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
