We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Structural Steel & Custom FabricationDetailer to join our team! The candidate is required to possess 7 years of previous experience in a similar industry (Structural Steel & Custom Fabrication).
This role is responsible for overseeing the design department in a fast paced environment, facilitate and assist with managing and growing the department. A key job function for the incumbent is to liaise between the shop and management, ensuring clear communication, accuracy and updates are occurring frequently throughout the day.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the design department, ensuring growth and promoting a can do attitude with drive to deliver.
- Take a concept, design and draw it, communicate and ensure all files are current.
- Working experience in conveyor, material handling systems and heavy equipment.
- Collaborate with external engineers and internal designers to create detailed technical drawings and schematics using Inventor (is a must), SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Utilize nesting software for programming plasma parts.
- Create shop fabrication drawings.
- Custom fabrication and design, including changes to drawings and design.
- Material take off and generation of bill of materials.
- Create quotes (including custom quotes) using spreadsheets.
- Utilize 2D or 3D software to create visual representations of designs and concepts.
- Assist in the development and modification of design models.
- Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all drawings and designs.
- Conduct quality checks on completed work to identify any errors or discrepancies.
- Collaborate with team members to identify and implement improvements in design processes.
- Purchase materials, namely steel when required.
- Support all projects through the fabrication process.
- Create quotes (including custom quotes) using spreadsheets
- Monitor budgeted materials and labour hours throughout the process to ensure profit is obtained.
- Adhere to tight deadlines by working efficiently.
Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Inventor (is a must), SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Solid experience with nesting/programming plasma parts.
- Strong experience working with building codes, welding symbols and parameters.
- Ability to interpret and create detailed technical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with 3D animation software.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, designers, and other team members.
