Description

The Port Moody Public Library is a one-branch library system that strives to be a welcoming and safe space for the community and is known for its dedication to customer service. The Library currently has an opportunity for a Library Systems Support Assistant to the join the team.

Reporting to the Collections & Technical Services Coordinator, the Library Systems Support Assistant is responsible for maintaining Library Systems, including internal and external support. This position also provides reference and reader advisory services at the information desk.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure and maintain public and staff library computers, peripherals and local area network
  • Liaise with City IS and external vendors for technical support
  • Support the library’s automated system and other library software
  • Provide individual computer training and technical support to library staff
  • Maintain documentation, monthly statistics and equipment inventory records
  • Provide reference and reader advisory services at the information desk
  • Maintain current on emerging technologies through professional reading and training opportunities
  • Research, cost, recommend and implement new technology, equipment and software
  • Dissemble library technology equipment and arrange for repair, replacement or disposal
  • Troubleshoot and update virtual servers as needed
  • Provide instruction to the public on how to use the digitization station equipment
  • Provide cataloguing and acquisition support as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in Library and Information Technology
  • 6 months to 1 year of job-related experience
  • Courses in networking and computer maintenance
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience using an Integrated Library System (Horizon is an asset)
  • Proficiency with various library software and applications
  • Knowledge of library cataloguing standards and guidelines such as RDA, LCSH, etc.
  • Basic SQL command syntax (an asset)
  • Familiar with adult, teen and children's literature in all formats.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment

This is a regular, full-time (35 hours per week) position with varied shifts.
