Leadership

- Ensures team members understands their role in the financial success of the department.
- Ensures financial decisions include consideration of the department’s goals and objectives and priorities.
Management
- Sets clear performance goals for their department and communicates them to the team and implements goals successfully.
- Able to set priorities to achieve goals.
- Involves the team members in goal setting.
- Ensures team members have access to and attend education sessions required to meet both their professional commitments and to increase team effectiveness.
- Talks with others immediately and openly about performance concerns.
- Ensures that all new team members receive excellent orientation including a description of our work culture, policies, equipment and expectations for performance.
- Follows our guidelines for performance management and performance development when giving feedback to employees.
- Ensures the department staffing levels are appropriate from a competency and skill basis given the needs of the residents.

Technical
- Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies and / or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
- Adjuvant (HCA/nursing background with OT/PT/ST).
- Experience / education in cognitively impaired resident and behaviour issues.
- 3 years experience in a Retirement Home Environment
- Assessment Skills
- Understanding of Palliative Care issues and related community resources.
- Able to qualify for certification / registration by:
Ontario - Therapeutic Recreation Ontario and / or Activity Professionals of Ontario.
Alberta – Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)
Québec - Québec Association of Activité Professionnels (QAAP) / Association Québécoise des professionnels en loisirs (AQPL)
