We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time permanent Life Skills Facilitator, Digital Engagement in our Resettlement Assistance Program. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours a week, on a Saturday to Wednesday schedule, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm (some flexibility available).

The Life Skills Facilitator, Digital Engagement will provide government-assisted refugees with structured, hands-on training and technology support during their adjustment to life in Canada. This will include building skills and confidence in virtual access to digital health, education, and community-based services, to enable them to live independently.

What you'll do:

  • Assist in the creation and administration of a Life Skills needs assessment, with a focus on client digital literacy.
  • Administering the Digital Literacy Training Program to Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) and any other newcomer clients.
  • Provide orientations to help clients build digital literacy skills and confidence in virtual access to digital health, education, and community-based services.
  • Oversee general asset management for client's use including asset lists and inventory logs such as loaner computers or cell phones.
  • Assist with the setup (including hardware, software and relevant accounts), distribution and subsequent wiping of loaner laptops and cell phones for newly arriving clients.
  • Basic troubleshooting for laptops, printers, and IT hardware or software issues to clients.
  • Create, update and maintain IT reference documents for staff.
  • Assist in the creation and on-going maintenance of Life Skills materials (including the Digital Literacy Training Program), with a focus on digital literacy, that builds on client's current skill sets.
  • Facilitate and support user experience testing of any new modules – sourcing materials/services to support clients.
  • Advise and support hardware, software and other product purchasing.
  • Maintain clear and accurate program delivery records and accurately document information using organizational systems.
  • Regularly engage with clients and build a professional relationship with them.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

  • Knowledge of various operating systems like ChromeOS and Windows.
  • Knowledge of android OS cell phones.
  • Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector police record check.
  • Ability to provide language support in at least one language other than English (such as Arabic, Somali or Tigrinya) is an asset.
  • Any experience or knowledge in video editing software.
  • Basic technology skills and understanding.
  • Education or work experience in general information technology an asset.
  • Experience in a teaching environment an asset.
  • Ability to create teaching materials and content such as knowledge-based information, how-to videos and instructions.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office suite and Google suite.
  • Able to apply a client centered, empowerment approach to all interactions with clients.
  • Comfortable teaching and presenting in front of others.
  • Able to work with people of various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Able to work with interruptions while remaining organized.

Working conditions:

This position works directly with our clients, mostly out of our temporary accommodation location, but may also be needed to visit clients in the community. As such the incumbent must be adaptable to various working locations and conditions.

Pay Range:

  • $23.50 - $24.00 / hour
