Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.
We access all communities in Nova Scotia in a timely and efficient manner with our fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating out of 60+ stations. We respond to 165,000+ calls annually across the province, which are actively managed through the EHS Operations Medical Communications Centre, the hub of all emergency (911) and non-emergency (hospital transfers) medical calls.
The EHS Operations LifeFlight program provides even greater accessibility by responding to patients on scene or through inter-facility transports by our critical care team via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance.
In addition, paramedics in Nova Scotia participate in various programs both urban and rural such as community-based paramedic programs, collaborative emergency centres, and emergency preparedness and special operations, to name a few.

(EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

Nature and Scope:
Reporting to the Clinical and Quality Manager, the LifeFlight Clinical Supervisor shall be responsible for the administration and assessment of the clinical education, training and quality portfolio within the LifeFlight program of EMC. As such, the incumbent shall be responsible for the day-to-day oversight and coordination of LifeFlight’s education and quality management program, ensuring the provision of quality patient care and continuing education within the LifeFlight program that meets clinical, contractual and organizational obligations. This position is responsible to lead and direct LifeFlight’s Clinical Leaders.
The supervisor will work closely with the EHS LifeFlight Critical Care Transport Leadership team as well as the LifeFlight Medical Director and Physician Team Leads, Clinicians and many other stakeholders.
The incumbent, while not required to act in the role of an EHS LifeFlight clinician, will be required to perform direct clinical oversight of the LifeFlight clinicians during mission operations

Responsibilities:
Education/Learning
  • Oversee orientation and continuing education through coordinating administrative requirements, conducting needs assessments, curriculum development, designing evaluation strategies and delivery.
  • Deliver training sessions to LifeFlight clinicians as required.
  • Develop special case reports and evaluation reports on the LifeFlight education portfolio.
Clinical Leader Oversight
  • Manage the program’s Clinical Leaders including workload, objectives, payroll, performance, etc.
  • Coordinate professional development activity for Clinical Leaders.
Liaison
  • Collaborate with carrier representatives and the EHS Operations Division to support critical care transport education and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Clinical Services and Ground Services Clinical Supervisors to ensure the integration of the ground and LifeFlight education programs.
  • Collaborate with the IWK Clinical Leader to ensure continuity of educational initiatives for all critical care team members.
  • Assist the Clinical and Quality Manager and Medical Oversight Physicians in the administration of annual performance evaluations of EHS LifeFlight staff.
Quality Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and support to the LifeFlight quality management program.
  • Oversee the coordination of LifeFlight’s clinical auditing program.
  • Participate and support clinical and educational research under the direction of the Medical Directors and the EMC Research Coordinator.
Clinical Operations
  • Support and act as a resource to the Operations Manager within all aspects of clinical operations
  • In collaboration with the EHS LifeFlight Equipment Standards Committee, participate in the ongoing research and acquisition of medical supplies/equipment.
  • Serve as a duty manager for EHS LifeFlight, on an on-call schedule. Make operational decisions that are appropriate for the situation and the delivery of critical care. These decisions have operational, safety, financial implications.
Accreditation
  • Support the EHS LifeFlight CAMTS Accreditation processes including the maintenance and acquisition of all accreditation related documentation.
What you offer:
  • Undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer may be considered.
  • Licensed to work in Nova Scotia as a registered health care professional
  • Minimum five years’ health care related experience, with a minimum three years’ experience at the critical care level required.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a leadership role within a healthcare setting required
  • Strong knowledge of critical care practices required.
  • Current or past Air Medical/Critical Care Transport experience considered an asset.
  • Quality assurance and/or risk management experience a strong asset.
  • Accreditation experience is a strong asset.
  • Project management experience an asset.
  • A diploma/certificate in Adult Education is an asset.
