LIFEGUARD/
SWIM INSTRUCTORS

Part-Time
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is
inviting applications for Lifeguard/Swim Instructor
positions at the Nelson & District Community
Complex.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum 15 years of age to work as a Swim Instructor

Minimum 16 years of age to work as a Lifeguard

Current National Lifeguard Certification (NLS)

Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor
Certification.

Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C

Bronze Cross

Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Aquafit
Instructor certifications an asset

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
INCLUDE:
Exceptional customer service focus

Ability to work with members of the public of all ages

Strong communication skills

Demonstrated ability to engage with and educate the
public

Demonstrated ability to work within a team and work to
team priorities

Demonstrated prioritization of Health & Safety of public

Perform physical skills requirements for NL

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for the
supervision and safety of patrons at all times through
public education, training, and proactive response to
potential situations.

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor must be able to perform
rescues and first aid as required while ensuring a safe and
efficient operation and ensuring the safety of participants
while providing instruction for pre-school, child and adult
swim instruction programs.

About the Complex:
Employees at the Nelson & District Community Complex
have the opportunity to be a part of a great team of people
and work in a facility they can be proud of. The facility
houses an ice arena, a 6 lane, 25 metre pool and leisure
pool, waterslide, hot tub , sauna, steam room, weight
room, fitness studio and meeting rooms. As the central
recreation hub in the City, the NDCC is a vibrant and active
place to be.

The successful candidate must be available to work a
varied work schedule that includes day, weekend, and/or
evening shifts up to 24 hours per week.

These are union positions. The current rate of pay when
working as a Lifeguard is $21.82 and when working as a
Swim Instructor is $22.62 per hour as per the collective
agreement. An additional 15% in lieu of benefits will be
added to every pay cheque.
