Elk Island Public Schools is recruiting a full-time LINKS GOALS Teacher at A.L. Horton Elementary. This teacher (of our two LINKS teachers) works with children with mild/moderate cognitive delays.
A.L. Horton Elementary serves approximately 350 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 18 teaching staff and 13 support staff. The school is located in Vegreville, AB, approximately 90 kilometres east of Sherwood Park, AB.
A.L. Horton Elementary believes the mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of every student is of great importance, and every student should be provided with a secure environment and learning opportunities. Horton Elementary is a designated Play and Learn at School (PALS) pre-kindergarten site, as well as hosts the Division’s Ukrainian Language and Culture Program.

The LINKS (Learning - Individual Needs, Knowledge and Skills) Program at A.L. Horton Elementary is designed to meet the educational needs of students who require comprehensive programming modifications in core subject areas. Students are integrated into their homeroom classes for art, health, music and physical education. An Individual Support Plan (ISP) is designed, along with parental input, for all students in the LINKS program. The school and the LINKS classroom are wheelchair accessible.
The Generating Occupational, Academic and Life Skills (GOALS) Program is a specialized system program designed to meet the needs of students identified with mild cognitive (intellectual) disabilities. The program focuses on improving academic and independent living skills within a positive and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education degree
Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
Knowledge and training of the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment Kits and its meaningful implementation in the classroom, used to guide instruction
Effective organization and classroom management skills
Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged
Excellent verbal and written skills
Experience or familiarity analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
Strong English programming in literacy and numeracy
