SENIOR CIVIL / COMMERCIAL LITIGATION LAW CLERK:

Bianchi Presta LLP is currently seeking applications for the role of a Senior Legal Assistant or Law Clerk to directly support our Litigation Group and join our BP team by independently managing the daily activities of our firm’s Litigation Practice Group Chair in his dispute resolution practice which has a particular focus on all Construction Lien litigation matters as well as all aspects of civil and commercial litigation more generally. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Liaises with clients and professionals;
  • Initiates the organization of and manages files or parts of files;
  • Calculates litigation time lines and ensures deadlines are met;
  • Drafts Court documents such as Pleadings, Affidavits, Motion Materials, Affidavits of Documents, Settlement Offers, Bills of Cost, etc.;
  • Take instructions, prioritize incoming work, follow through on assignments and manage ongoing tasks;
  • Maintain schedules, book appointments, and travel arrangements;
  • Creates a document database, cross-reference production and exhibit documents and maintains disc copies of transcripts for searching purposes;
  • Reviews transcripts to summarize and prepare lists of outstanding items;
  • Assembles answers to undertakings;
  • Prepares charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence for use on discovery and trial;
  • Prepare, draft, revise, serve and file correspondence and litigation documents and assist with preparations for trial, examinations for discovery, closings and court proceedings, as required;
  • Take instructions, prioritize incoming work, follow through on assignments and manage ongoing tasks;
  • Possess the ability to handle more than one professional and to undertake additional responsibilities as required within the share and team;
  • Provides litigation support prior to and during trials and hearings. Organizes attendance of witnesses;
  • Prepare accounts and manage pre-bills, and have a strong working proficiency with all accounting and billing procedures; and
  • Other duties, as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Legal Administrative Assistant or Law Clerk Diploma from a recognized college preferred
  • At least 7+ years of experience as a legal administrative assistant or Law Clerk with specific Civil and Commercial Litigation practice experience
  • Construction Lien litigation experience is required and a major asset
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and the Ontario Construction Act
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and exceptional proofreading skills
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, efficient manner with clients and external contacts as well as internally throughout the firm
  • Highly organized, team player with the ability to work under pressure, deal with changing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work well in a team and with minimum supervision when required
  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office 365 products including Word, Excel, Outlook, digital dictation and Adobe Acrobat Pro
