Role:

The Logistics Planner is responsible for analyzing and managing one or more assigned Sysco Site’s Inbound Logistics network in support of our overall service and financial objectives. This includes optimizing the inbound supply chain to create the most efficient means of transportation to reduce freight expense and maximize profitability. Additionally, this role is tasked with the identification, analysis, and implementation of opportunities to increase Sysco controlled cases and shared loads across Sites, as well as promote service level and overall process improvements.
Role Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Houston based Inbound Logistics Planning team (NITC) for all designated pickups managed via Manhattan Transportation Management System (TMS).
  • Communicate applicable transport designations to the NITC Planner
  • Analyze and present new freight opportunities to increase site-controlled pickups.
  • Setup & implement new supplier pickup conversions / freight programs.
  • Review load consolidation opportunities to maximize efficiency and profitability.
  • Maximize overall load fill percentages on controlled inbound freight.
  • Optimize profitability on inbound controlled freight Logistics Earned Income (LEI)
  • Monitor and manage inbound carrier performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Merchandising and supply Chain Teams
  • Provide Over, Short and Damaged (OS&D) reporting to carrier and Merchandising team within 48 hours.
  • Manage and mitigate all aspects of carrier and supplier freight claims, while collaborating with the respective cross functional teams
  • Manage CORA workflow and resolve various freight/allowance account payable issues as needed.
  • Facilitate border crossing requirements as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Canada Corporate Logistics team for problem resolution and emergency escalations.
  • Work with local operations team(s) to resolve detained carriers.
  • Validate detention times within 48hr time frame and enter in TMS detention module.
  • Provide documentation for the inbound scheduler to enter receiving appointments for all logistics loads and backhauls.
  • Create backhaul Customer Pick-up (CPU) reporting and confirm that backhaul pickups were completed.
  • Work with receiving to balance Logistics loads on the inbound schedule.
  • Review Manhattan TMS daily for unplanned orders / non-tendered shipments.
  • Provide coverage and/or assistance for other Logistics Planners/Sites.
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):

  • 2 years of experience in distribution, logistics, routing, operations, and/or procurement
  • Exposure to transportation financials, KPIs, freight claims, etc.
  • High school diploma minimum
  • College/university degree in Supply Chain / Logistics related field a plus
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Experience with Manhattan TMS or similar Logistics management software program.
  • Transportation finance acumen
  • Adept understanding of transportation rules and regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of managing competing priorities
  • Ability to resolve routine problems and questions independently.
  • Negotiation and mitigation skills
  • Strong mathematical and analytical ability
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail
