As the Silviculture Reporting and Strategic Planning Officer, you will coordinate and lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of strategic silviculture initiatives and associated forest management practices to promote excellence in forest management and raise the profile of silviculture across the province to demonstrate how silviculture can be used to manage for a diverse range of values and contribute to achievement of resource management objectives.

Job Requirements:
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Professional Forester. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management and seven (7) years of progressive and directly related forestry experience; or,
  • Master's Degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management and five (5) years of progressive and directly related forestry experience; or,
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education; i.e., Technical Diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management, completion of pupil program and seven (7) years of progressive and directly related experience.

Related experience must include each of the following:
  • Experience in delivering components of operational silviculture programs.
  • Experience managing complex projects.
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Experience supervising forest professionals.

Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience developing and implementing forest level strategic plans.
  • Experience ensuring the integrity of, and developing silviculture information systems.
  • Experience in First Nations engagement.

Provisos:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent).
  • Willing and able to travel away from home and stay overnight, as required.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position can be based in any Ministry of Forests' office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Depending on the successful candidate's location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
