FULL TIME MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEE

This position will require the employee to work from 40 hours per week, holiday’s and weekends inclusive. The shifts to be worked are mainly 3pm-11pm, 7am-3pm and 10am-6pm. Some overnight and on call shifts may be required.

The wage for this position is $18.54/hour, with a premium of $1.00/hour for any hours on the night shift (11pm-7am) as per schedule “B” of the Union Agreement.

The starting date for this position will be effective immediately.

MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEE POSITION SUMMARY:
POSITION SUMMARY:
You will report directly to the Facilities Manager for the day to day operations and any other maintenance related issues. Your main responsibility will be to perform a variety of routine to semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair duties to maintain the Holiday Inn Express Sault Ste. Marie facilities, grounds, and specific equipment. You will ensure that all maintenance related issues are handled on a daily basis with guest problems taking priority. You will also perform any other tasks requested from time to time by management.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - MORNING SHIFT: Regular Daily Tasks

  • Sign out keys from front desk
  • Patrol property first thing in the morning and collect all garbage lying about
  • Sweep around buildings, and in front of all doorways in order to collect cigarette butts, etc.
  • Performs and assists in preventative maintenance to the hotel’s facilities, grounds, and specific equipment
  • Troubleshoot any plumbing problems and determine the best means of fixing it
  • Remove, replace, and repair plumbing fixtures, faucets, valves, and washers as necessary.
  • Maintenance of HVAC units, ensuring equipment runs properly, replace/clean filters and belts as necessary
  • Perform a variety of minor electrical duties including installation and repairs to electrical outlets, switches, receptacles, and light bulb changes
  • Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance and repair duties; maintenance and repairs to doors and door closures, patches and repairs to ceilings and walls, cleaning of parking lot and restaurant windows, plastering, repair/replace of drywall, apply caulking and grout where needed (bathtubs, toilets, etc.)
  • Assembly and repairs to furniture, installs shelving, bulletin boards, and install floor and ceiling tiles
  • Patch and prepare surfaces for painting, painting various surfaces including walls, cabinets, doors, parking lot stripes
  • Assist in unloading of furniture, supplies, etc.
  • Assist in vehicle parking in parking lot when hotel is full and functions going on. This is usually directed by the Front Desk.
  • Assist outside contractors as needed in emergency situations
  • Keep work area and storage areas clean and orderly. Keep tools clean, appropriately stored and in safe and proper working condition.
  • Report unusual situations to management
  • Sign in keys to front desk at end of shift

Pool Area Tasks
· Check pool chemical levels every 2 hours during the day

· Shut down pumps and check chlorinator. Add chlorine pails if necessary (keep 2/3 full)

· Vacuum the pool if required

· Backwash pool filter if required (if gauge is at 22 or higher)

· Check baskets in pumps and skimmers and empty

· Clean any tables and chairs that are dirty
Winter Tasks
· Keep all doorways and stairways clear of snow

· Keep main entrance driveway clear of snow

· Apply salt in icy areas as required
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - EVENING SHIFT: Regular Daily Tasks
· Upon arrival, sign out keys from front desk and check in with the morning shift person to see what is planned for the day

· Throughout shift, perform functions as noted above

· If it is dark prior to the end of your shift, do a tour of the property to see if any lights are burned out and ensure that everything is as it should be

· Close and lock all doors leading into kitchen/maintenance shop area

· Inform front desk that you are leaving and sign in keys to front desk
Pool Tasks
· Check the pool chemical levels at 3:00 p.m. and every hour after that until the end of your shift

· At the end of your shift, ensure pool area is closed and locked
Winter Tasks
· Keep all doorways and stairways clear of snow

· Keep main entrance driveway clear of snow

· Apply salt in icy areas as required

At the end of EACH shift, clean all tools and items that you have used throughout the shift and put them back in their proper places and throw out any garbage you have created

QUALIFICATIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

· Must have previous Maintenance experience

· Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge

· Handyman skills and experience using of power tools

· Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays as required

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Excellent organizational and time management skills

· Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, such as heavy lifting, working on ladders, bending, and standing or walking for extended periods of time.

- Must demonstrate proof of full vaccination or provide documented medical reason, by a physician, for not being vaccinated
