About Our Opportunity
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Person is responsible for ensuring the efficient turnaround time of carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs, and servicing in the following areas – carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and ventilation, on properties owned and operated by DCGS.
As an ideal candidate, you are a strong team player with a good work ethic and strong interpersonal skills. You have experience in mechanical maintenance or another trade with skills in Carpentry/ Infrastructure, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs. You are physically fit with the ability to lift, carry loads and can keep up with the fast pace Operation. You have a strong commitment to health and safety and pay attention to detail. You have a practical mind and mechanical aptitude.
The Key Technical Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for Carpentry/Infrastructure, preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment and machinery in a safe and timely manner. They will also be responsible for performing or arranging for general maintenance throughout the facility in conjunction with contractors or other associated personnel. Carpentry/Infrastructure work and equipment maintenance hold equal weight on site.
Primary Accountabilities
- Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of DCGS, including walkways, Decks, driveways and parking areas, drainage systems, curbs and gutters.
- Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports and inventory records.
- Upgrade, Repair Rental Housing as required Seasonally.
- Operate motor vehicles, motorized equipment and power tools used in the trade.
- Respond to after-hours maintenance calls while participating on the standby duty roster.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 or equivalent, plus 3 -5 years’ experience in building and property maintenance or a related field. Must be able to perform basic tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and drywall.
- Ability to operate electrical and mechanical tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.
- Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Assets
- Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.
- Forklift Certification and BOBCAT operations.
- First Aid/CPR
