About the role

We’re looking for a Manager, Legal Claim (12 Month Secondment), to join our growing team!
What you’ll do here:

  • Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of a group of In-House Lawyers.
  • Establish and communicate clear performance objectives and continually measure the progress on the attainment of these objectives.
  • Ensure a high level of employee engagement by continually monitoring overall engagement and creating and executing engagement action plans.
  • Assess the strengths and areas of opportunity for your team and putting forth recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide regular and ongoing feedback, mentoring and coaching to your team.
  • Identify key talent and provide ongoing developmental opportunities for the optimization and engagement of our key talent.
  • Partner with HR to lead the recruitment process including but not limited to the interview and selection process and the onboarding of new employees.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, one-on-ones and huddles to ensure the two-way flow of information.
  • Assist your team to understand and apply policies, procedures and theories.
  • Drive change while maintaining effective communication to ensure your team is informed of new initiatives, processes and/or workflows.
  • Act as an advisor and consultant on file-related matters including opinions for clients, file strategy and trial preparation.
  • Assist, where needed, in the communication with claims on trial discussions and other complex file-related issues.
  • Conduct regular quality review of legal files (QRP) for your team and providing guidance, feedback and training as determined by the results.
  • Compile and analyze statistics and reports while monitoring and predicting legal trends.
  • Lead or participate in project-based tasks as assigned by Director and/or VP Legal Claims.


What you bring to the table:

  • LLB or J.D. degree, or any combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society
  • Minimum 8 years of insurance litigation experience preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure, Insurance and related law
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Proven project management skills, where you have planned, led, and successfully executed projects
  • Experience implementing and driving change by encouraging innovative thinking and changes in an operation while providing mobilization during challenging periods and energizing everyone towards the common goal
  • Experience leading a large team including establishing and measuring performance, providing open and honest feedback and maintaining employee engagement
