About the role
We’re looking for a Manager, Legal Claim (12 Month Secondment), to join our growing team!
What you’ll do here:
- Oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of a group of In-House Lawyers.
- Establish and communicate clear performance objectives and continually measure the progress on the attainment of these objectives.
- Ensure a high level of employee engagement by continually monitoring overall engagement and creating and executing engagement action plans.
- Assess the strengths and areas of opportunity for your team and putting forth recommendations for improvement.
- Provide regular and ongoing feedback, mentoring and coaching to your team.
- Identify key talent and provide ongoing developmental opportunities for the optimization and engagement of our key talent.
- Partner with HR to lead the recruitment process including but not limited to the interview and selection process and the onboarding of new employees.
- Facilitate regular team meetings, one-on-ones and huddles to ensure the two-way flow of information.
- Assist your team to understand and apply policies, procedures and theories.
- Drive change while maintaining effective communication to ensure your team is informed of new initiatives, processes and/or workflows.
- Act as an advisor and consultant on file-related matters including opinions for clients, file strategy and trial preparation.
- Assist, where needed, in the communication with claims on trial discussions and other complex file-related issues.
- Conduct regular quality review of legal files (QRP) for your team and providing guidance, feedback and training as determined by the results.
- Compile and analyze statistics and reports while monitoring and predicting legal trends.
- Lead or participate in project-based tasks as assigned by Director and/or VP Legal Claims.
What you bring to the table:
- LLB or J.D. degree, or any combination of equivalent education and experience
- Member in good standing of the Law Society
- Minimum 8 years of insurance litigation experience preferred or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure, Insurance and related law
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Proven project management skills, where you have planned, led, and successfully executed projects
- Experience implementing and driving change by encouraging innovative thinking and changes in an operation while providing mobilization during challenging periods and energizing everyone towards the common goal
- Experience leading a large team including establishing and measuring performance, providing open and honest feedback and maintaining employee engagement
