The Opportunity
RVS invites applications from qualified individuals for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Manager of Corporate Risk, Insurance and Security to join our dynamic team starting immediately .The Manager of Corporate Risk, Insurance and Security provides advice to schools, areas and service units on a broad range of risk management issues to protect Rocky View students in ways that balance learning opportunities with student safety and the protection of RVS assets. The Manager of Corporate Risk, Insurance and Security is responsible for risk management, insurance, claims, fleet safety, rentals, leasing, tax assessments, administrative procedure reviews and liability management through contract reviews. The Manager Corporate Risk, Insurance and Security reports to the General Counsel and works closely with the Director of Finance and the Associate Superintendent, Business and Operations.
Position Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
Leads the Division’s risk management practices
Manages the division’s insurance program, including reporting and renewals
Participates on various committee including Urban Schools Insurance Consortium
Conducts independent investigations for risk management and insurance, including fraud, negligence and serious student and employee accidents
Researches and develops the Risk Register and all tasks associated with this function
Liaises with insurance providers on investigations and behaviours which may put RVS at risk
Prepares reports to administration on independent investigations, including strategies, recommendations and direction to improve safety and works with divisional staff to implement desired outcomes
Evaluates rental and leasing Agreements from an Insurance and risk standpoint for division facilities
Acts as a resource for contractual language, legislation and regulation interpretation
Evaluates off-site activities for safety and prepares Service Provider Agreements to ensure RVS policies are met and risk is appropriately distributed
Collaborates with Occupational Health & Safety on hazards and safety concerns with RVS facilities
Education/Experience
Post-secondary degree in Business, with preference for an insurance designation
Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is preferred
5 or more years of experience and demonstrated progressive responsibility in an insurance, risk management, or legal environment
Experience working in school division or public sector employer is considered an asset
An equivalent combination of Education and experience may be considered
Knowledge and Skills
Working knowledge of a wide variety of insurance products and demonstrated knowledge of applicability and appropriate insurance limits
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
Effective organization, prioritization, and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to apply excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
High degree of confidentiality
Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
