Job Purpose

The Manager of Mental Wellness is responsible for the management of staff in the Mental Wellness Department, ensuring programs and services are delivered as designed by the Health Director. They are the first point of contact should concerns arise regarding staffing, scheduling, budgets, grants, policies, or service delivery of all Saulteau First Nations (SFN) health programs. While the manager works closely with the Director of Health for the program planning and oversight, they are specifically responsible for the non-medical aspects of running the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program and Services Administration

  • Assists the Director of Health with annual programming, service development, and program delivery through proposal writing, planning, budgeting, implementation, evaluation, and report writing.
  • Ensures staff maintain quality, accountability, and high standards in all programs and services. This includes providing training for staff and developing procedures, models, and comprehensive frameworks of delivery.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets for all arms of the Health Department, ensuring compliance with agreements and completing required reporting. Maintains appropriate fiscal controls to ensure all programs are within the scope of the annual budget and have an understanding and report on any variances.
  • Works in collaboration with the Health Director to develop individual work plans for each arm of the Health Department in alignment with SFN strategy.
  • Ensures consistent and meaningful evaluation of all programs and services is carried out to assess their impact and success and to make needed changes and improvements as indicated.
  • Raises medical related inquiries to the director of health.

Management of Program Staff

  • Responsible for hiring, orientation and ongoing supervision of all Health Programs Department staff.
  • Establishes and maintains all personnel files of Health Programs Department staff.
  • Conducts regular performance appraisals with program team members, providing constructive feedback and direction as to improvement.
  • Provides positive leadership to all staff, encouraging a team approach, professional attitude, personal wellness, and good management - staff relations, always modeling best practices in this regard.

Department Management

  • Assists the Director of Health with the preparation of records and reporting for all programs and services within the department, providing funders, particularly First Nations Health Authority, with comprehensive details on programs offered.
  • Administers the annual department operating plan in accordance with funding agreements and in alignment with SFN strategic plan. Provides quarterly reports to the Director of Health on departmental progress in the above areas. This plan is developed as a collaboration between the Manager and the Director of Health, pairing business expertise with medical expertise.
  • Developing and ensuring adherence to an annual department budget and to monitor and be accountable for all program and service expenditures, completing appropriate reporting to funders.
  • To be an active participant in the management team of SFN, attending meetings regularly and bringing forward issues for discussion and decision.

Other Related Duties

  • Participate in all SFN sponsored community events and/or designate staff.

Qualifications and Skills

  • This position is designed as a management position and therefore a post-secondary designation in a Management area of study, or a combination of post-secondary education, coupled with management experience will be sought. If the successful candidate has a medical background, certain duties may be altered to reflect their abilities within their practicing license (ie. If successful applicant is a Registered Nurse).
  • Preference will be given to applicants with certification and training in a health related field.
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership role, with experience and knowledge of health program delivery.
  • Knowledge of the BC Health Care system is considered an asset.
  • Experience delivering mental health programs in FN is an asset.
  • First Aid, CPR-C.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, development and implementation of culturally appropriate programs and community-based service delivery.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills, plus strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, make effective decisions in critical situations, resolve conflicts and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to build trust, serve as a positive role model and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Records Check, with a vulnerable sector clearance.

Work Conditions

  • Office work is performed primarily during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursdays.
  • Management position; required to work 70 hours bi-weekly.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $73,390.00-$101,920.00 per year
