Join our dynamic team as the Manager, Privacy & Regulatory Risk, playing a pivotal role in fortifying privacy compliance across the organization. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you'll independently handle day-to-day privacy activities, from incident management to third-party engagements. Your contributions will extend to supporting the development of Privacy Program standards, training, reporting, and data analysis. You will also work closely with key collaborators, ensuring a risk-based approach and adherence to organizational standards.

The day to day
Lead Management of CWB’s Privacy Incident and Privacy Complaints Management Program
  • Independently assess low-to-medium risk privacy incidents, ensuring timely intake, triage, and fact-gathering.
  • Recommend and monitor First Line implementation of mitigating actions, preventing incident recurrence.
  • Identify and report higher-risk incidents to the Senior Manager/CPO and facilitate timely reporting to regulators.
  • Respond to Privacy Complaints, guiding First Line in investigations and remediation.
  • Play an active part in the implementation of improvements to prevent recurring complaints.
Manage CWB Privacy Impact Assessments and Related Reviews
  • Act as the Privacy Office representative on low to medium-risk projects, identifying privacy issues and promoting standard methodologies.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments on relevant projects, proposing corrective or mitigating action plans.
  • Complete routine Privacy due diligence assessments on Third-Party Service providers, identifying high-risk engagements.
Provide Overall Support to Compliance Program Stakeholders
  • Assist Senior Manager and CPO in preparing Management, Executive, and Board Level reports, analyzing Privacy-related metrics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for First Line inquiries, acting as a privacy knowledge expert.
  • Stay current with evolving Privacy legislation, court/regulatory decisions, and industry best practices.
  • Support the development and delivery of Privacy training to employees, ensuring understanding of regulatory obligations.
Successful incumbent
This role requires someone who possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, able to provide clear advice on complex issues. They demonstrate independence and strong teamwork, applying regulatory requirements effectively with outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills. Efficient under pressure, they lead projects, prioritize tasks, and anticipate departmental needs. Comfortable with technology, they support risk monitoring and data analytics.
With moderate authority, they contribute insights to ongoing program improvements, engage with various business units, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Handling fluctuating workloads, they excel in high-pressure situations, issuing-spotting, and escalating concerns effectively.
Demonstrated experience & core knowledge requirements.
  • Undergraduate university degree or similar post-secondary education in a related field, with a preference in business, law or equivalent.
  • Formal Privacy designation or certification an asset
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related experience, preferably within banking or other regulated industry, combined with minimum 4 years of proven experience in a privacy or similar risk management area.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Federal and Provincial privacy law
  • Knowledge of data architecture, data analytics and/or AI and machine learning an asset.
