Manager, Social Impact (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and Sustainability)


We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Manager, Social Impact to lead Western Financial Group's DEI and Sustainability efforts. Reporting to the Director of Social Impact and Internal Communications, the Manager will be responsible for designing, managing, and implementing programs and initiatives that align with Western's DEI and Sustainability strategic plans.


Here is what a typical day looks like


Leadership:

  • Build, drive, and sustain an engaged, high-performance team, through employee development, performance management, coaching, succession planning, and team effectiveness that drive accountability and favourable outcomes.
  • Lead the change management process to shape organizational understanding of proposed programs and initiatives and establish support from key stakeholders.
  • Model, lead, and communicate the Guiding Principles as the foundation and principal element of Western culture.
  • Lead the Senior Consultant, Sustainability and the Consultant, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Sustainability. This will involve providing guidance and support to ensure that the team is meeting project goals, delivering high-quality work, developing, and maintaining strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and staying up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:

  • Lead the creation or revision of policies and practices, ensuring alignment with DEI strategies, and supporting the implementation of talent management policies, practices, and systems enabling retention and development of marginalized groups.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership to leaders and non-leaders, ensuring alignment with the organization's commitment to DEI.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that Western’s hiring, promotion, and retention practices are equitable and inclusive.
  • Manage partnerships with external partners to advance the Western’s DEI goals.
  • Focus on the creation and management of diversity analytics, including benchmarking, tracking metrics, analyzing, and generating diversity reporting for various audiences to highlight trends and demonstrate the impact of DEI programs and initiatives.

Sustainability:

  • Provide insight and direction regarding sustainability trends.
  • Support employee engagement and recognition programs focusing on improving workplace sustainability.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sustainability practices into strategic and annual goals.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to sustainability.

Business Partnership:

  • Partner and influence stakeholders by providing specialized advisory and support services in all areas of DEI and Sustainability.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of innovative and powerful strategies to embed DEI and Sustainability across Western, including awareness and education initiatives and programs.
  • Provide progressive leadership to create and manage our DEI and Sustainability efforts, including strategic planning, coordination and communication of key activities, event and resources management, awareness, and training, and reporting program progress and metrics.
  • Build and execute a strong communications plan to share planning and progress with all stakeholders.

The value you bring

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic plans that create a positive Social Impact, encompassing all aspects of sustainability - environmental, social, and governance – including DEI in a mature organization.
  • Proven track record working on issues related to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Active listening and interpreting, analyzing & investigating, business awareness, decision making/judgment, managing DEI, managing for results, strategic thinking/management, strong verbal, and written communication.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent education and experience
  • Designations in the areas of DEI and sustainability will be considered an asset.

Hours: Full-time / 37.5 hour/week
