Position Summary:

The Managing Librarian, Information Services is responsible for:

  • Supervising the operations of the Library Information Desk, Interlibrary Loans, and the Library mailroom.
  • Direct supervision of library assistants who work at the Library Information Desk and in Interlibrary Loans.
  • Administration of the Library's call tracking system and chat system.
  • Providing reference and instructional services to AU faculty, staff, and students.
  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum five years experience of reference service and instruction is required, preferably in an academic library.
  • One to two years supervisory experience, including the assessment and training of staff is required.
  • Demonstrated service orientation is required.
  • A demonstrated understanding of graduate research requirements and processes is required.
  • Familiarity with digital literacy or information literacy and tutorial creation software packages is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with document delivery software, such as Relais is preferred.
  • Comfort working in a technologically mediated environment an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail are essential.
  • Experience with the Innovative Interfaces library system is a definite asset.

This position reports directly to the Associate University Librarian, Learning & Research Services and works closely with other librarians, library staff, and staff across the university.
