Master Production Scheduler


This opportunity manages short and long-term deliverables related to the movement of seed and data through the Canola Breeding Pipeline.


Working with the site leadership team in managing the capacity and capital requirements of the site, this position will oversee, plan, schedule and supervise the progress of all projects at both the Breeding and Trait Integration facilities throughout their respective cycles.


Leading the development and implementation of a robust capacity management framework to ensure the sites' ability to meet the production and pipeline delivery requirements of the Canola Breeding and Trait Integration, this opportunity will contribute to the advancement of the Canola Breeding and Trait Integration Pipeline Delivery through efficient production planning and project scheduling for the Winnipeg Trait and Pipeline Delivery sites.

What you will do:

  • Collaborating with Nursery Design Operations managers and Research Associates, translate and break down high-level project plans into detailed weekly, daily, shift) operations plans and tracking systems
  • Liaise with Breeders, Nursery Designers, Planners and Operational Leads to operationalize breeding long range plans to ensure timely delivery of material
  • Develop, implement and maintain a robust capacity management framework, allowing for optimal use of resources ensuring timely seed production
  • Working with the site leadership team in managing capacities, collaborate with breeders and functional leaders to forecast medium to long-term production demand requirements
  • Develop and maintain labour and supply forecast for all site workflows
  • Maintain process flows for all site workflows, including firewall reviews and handoff requirements
  • Develop and maintain a cost-to-serve framework for all site workflows
  • Liaise with molecular lab managers to oversee datapoint forecasting
  • Manage and visualize project timelines, including the communication of problem reports
  • Coordinate contingency plans
  • Coordinate cross functional cycle review and end of season reviews
  • Manage Canola Crop Cycle for all site workflows
  • Champion safety, quality, and trait compliance initiatives
  • Efficiently & effectively carry out all detailed record keeping and other technical objectives
  • Collaborate with other research staff to champion, coordinate and implement process improvements

Who you are:

  • Post-secondary education in mathematics, statistics, engineering, production management, biological sciences or related field
  • 5/+ years’ experience in a production/manufacturing site or an R&D environment (i.e. laboratory, field, or plant growth room)
  • Strong understanding of plant breeding methodologies and practices
  • Strong knowledge and experience in production systems, and supply planning, project tracking and management, forecasting, capacity management and costing methodologies
  • Experience implementing a process methodology (i.e. Lean Six Sigma Methodologies, Kan Ban, Just-in-Time (JIT), etc.) is preferred
  • Strong computer software literacy (experience using software such as SQL, Pipeline Pilot, Microsoft Office is preferred)
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to gain commitment to achieve results
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functionally and delegate work within a matrix environment
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Possess strong ability to work accurately, paying attention to detail
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks
  • Adaptability and ability to learn new procedures, systems and methodologies
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise, and actionable manner
