Alamos Gold’s Island Gold is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. This underground operation is located just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa in Northern Ontario. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality, and Alamos is now investing in a major expansion project which is expected to transform Island into one of the largest and most profitable mines in Canada with an 18-year mine life. Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of workforce and assuring targeted levels of equipment availability.
- Ensure maintenance work requirements on the equipment are efficiently coordinated, scheduled, and executed to deliver maximum equipment availability to the production departments within the established maintenance budget.
- Responsible for management of the mechanical department frontline supervisors and mechanical contractors.
- Monitor day-to-day activities to ensure that the work is being performed in a safe and effective manner.
- Assists with the development of a competent and efficient mechanical maintenance work force by training departmental personnel (as necessary) on all critical equipment. Ensures training requirements for the workforce are met.
- Assist the mechanical managers with the preparation of the departmental budget. Must also ensure that the maintenance costs are in alignment with the current budget guidelines.
- Create, developpe & update departmental procedures and SOP’s.
- Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement mechanical maintenance equipment or systems by reviewing and preparing equipment specifications and advising the Mechanical Superintendent on equipment capability and compatibility, installation requirements and costs, and potential operations and maintenance expenses.
- Participates actively in toolbox and monthly meetings.
- Oversees special projects, rebuilds and shutdowns.
- Spot checks five points safety cards.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring preventive maintenance programs.
- Ensures tidiness of shops and overall housekeeping.
- Ensures that supervisors have all the necessary tools to fulfill their roles.
- Keeps the W.I.P. (work in process) as low as possible by implementing work orders discipline.
- Keeps superintendent informed of major activities.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Have a minimum of five years of work experience as a maintenance supervisor and 8 years as a mechanic.
- Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical schematic understanding.
- Journeyman/woman trade certification in a relevant trade (required).
- Computer proficiency, specifically in Microsoft Office and SAP
