PURPOSE: The purpose of the Medical Transportation Driver is to provide transportation services to Cowichan community members utilizing the Ts’ewulhtun Health Center services, and support with other duties as required. This is a full time permanent unionized position that works in the office with extensive local and regional travel required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, candidates start at $20.08 - $21.29 per hour ($36,549.02 - $38,755.08 annually).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide Local Transportation Services to Clients
- Ensure the regular maintenance of vehicles, including ensuring sufficient fuel and completing inspection
- Prepare client transportation schedule
- Pick-up and drop-off clients for medical and dental appointments
- If unavailable for a pick-up or drop-off, coordinate an alternate driver to provide transportation services
- Ensure equipment is valid and maintained, such as First Aid Kit, Fire Extinguisher, and car seats
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle
Provide Other Support To The Agency When Required
- When required run errands for other programs such as furniture delivery and assembly, purchasing groceries, and picking up activity passes
- Attend and participate in team meetings as required
- Other related duties
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:_ (please attach all required documents) _
- Grade 12 graduation required
- Valid BC Class 4 Drivers License and satisfactory driver’s abstract
- 2 years Class 4 driving experience considered an asset
- Experience working in a First Nations community
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about culture, customs, and traditions of Cowichan people
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check
- Effective December 1, 2021: full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Cowichan Tribes. Employees must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of proper car seat installation
- Knowledge of vehicle inspection procedures
- Understanding of Ts’ewulhtun Health Centre and the services offered
- Ability to create and maintain strong community connections and relationships
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
- Specific knowledge of Cowichan community an asset
- Well-developed oral, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Time management with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously
