The BC Midwives Association is a dynamic organization committed to supporting and advocating for midwives across the province of BC. We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our team as a Member Support Advisor. In this role, you will play a crucial part in assisting midwives in navigating local, regional, and provincial challenges, ensuring fair treatment and adherence to proper processes regarding service contracts.

This is a new position and will require someone who can develop systems and workflows.

Responsibilities:

Advise and Advocate:

  • Act as the MABC staff contact for the new Midwifery Main Agreement on Template Midwife Service Contract.
  • Offer individual and group contract support. Assist midwives with health authority service contract negotiations, troubleshooting and implementation.
  • Provide support for complaints or discipline matters, ensuring fair and equitable treatment and due process for midwives
  • Develop Expertise in Health Authority Structures:
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the organizational structures, policies, and procedures within health authorities in British Columbia.
  • Act as a liaison between midwives, health authorities and governing bodies, conveying the unique needs and challenges faced by the midwifery community.

Communication and Education:

  • Keep abreast of changes in healthcare policy and regulation that may impact midwifery services.
  • Promote awareness of and provide information on relevant MABC initiatives to the midwifery community.
  • Promote awareness of the Association's initiatives, projects, and committees.
  • Update midwives on local, regional, and provincial issues affecting their practice.

Connect Midwives to Association Services, Resources, and Benefits:

  • Offer expertise in areas such as billing and payment challenges related to MSP.
  • Link midwives to resources and support services, including the Midwife Benefit Programs, Audit and Billing support, and Negotiations.
  • Establish and maintain a database of health authority departments and key contacts relevant to midwifery services.
  • Identify key individuals with influence and decision-making authority who support the integration of midwifery care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Law, Health Policy, Health Care Management or other related studies (Masters preferred).
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare landscape in BC, including health authorities and provincial regulations.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
  • Proven ability to establish and build partnerships with internal and external project partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of contract management and negotiation processes.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate services.
  • Passion to improve the working conditions for Midwives in BC.
  • Ability to travel within BC when required.
