Wage Range: $35.0947 - $45.4486 / hour

The Opportunity:
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Mental Health Support Worker provides a range of Mental Health education to community members including individuals, families and groups within a First Nations cultural and socioeconomic setting. Education service areas may include: trauma, anger, spirituality, parenting, abuse, confusion, stress, grief, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, dissociation, substance abuse and addiction issues.

  • Gathers information about and maintains waitlist when service demands exceed resources. Contact clients to inform them if they have been placed on waitlist. Crisis/emergent clients will not be waitlisted.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients on the waitlist to monitor for changes in problem severity and to facilitate waitlist management.
  • Identifies, assesses and monitors client’s needs in conjunction with parents/caregivers and/or other service providers (e.g., CYMH Therapist, MCFD, school, etc.).
  • Interviews clients and their parent(s)/caregiver(s) and other relevant/involved professionals to gather case history information. Identifies area of concern to be addressed by counselling. Assists therapist in carrying out, monitoring, and evaluating treatment relative to counselling support and education.
  • Develops and implements counselling plans and programs necessary to meet client goals and objectives. Provides individual and group counseling interventions using counselling techniques depending on client or family need.
  • Provides follow-up support to clients after the end of treatment. Monitors and evaluates clients functioning and interaction with family and friends and in the community. Collaborates with professionals involved with client’s case.
  • Collaborates with and refers to other professionals where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required (e.g., Mental Health therapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist, etc.).
  • Maintains knowledge of community resources and provides appropriate referrals to clients to meet their needs.
  • Organizes and facilitates support groups in program areas for clients and/or their families as required.
  • Collaborates with professionals involved with specific cases (i.e., social workers, probation officers, etc.).

What You Will Bring to The Role:

  • Degree in Social Work or comparable degree with strong clinical skills.
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with their respective professional bodies.
  • Two years of related experience with responsibility for providing a range of community based Mental Health services.
