Highlights of the job

We are hiring up to four (4) full time, temporary Meter Installer 1 positions (for up to 11 months) working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Meter Installer 1 is accountable for installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of overhead, underground, and temporary electrical services with voltages under 1kV. They are required to conduct themselves in a safe, environmentally conscious, customer focused professional manner.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Installing, removing, maintaining and repairing overhead, underground and temporary single phase and three phase electrical services with voltages under 1kV. This includes, but is not limited to 480V and 600V systems.
  • Installing, disconnecting and reconnecting all types of non-transformer rated AMI revenue meters and meter equipment.
  • Fostering a positive safety attitude and a zero injury and illness culture.
  • Supporting the review, update and development of procedures.
  • Reading meters as required.
  • Identifying potential job hazards to Meter Foreman and participating in safety discussions and activities.
  • Identifying gaps, errors or inadequacies in existing business processes and making recommendations for improvements in work methodology; assisting foreman in investigating and resolving problems.
  • Providing input to checklists, and completing checklists, procedures, documentation, and controls.
  • Responding to customer inquiries and troubleshooting to resolve problems in the field.
  • Ensuring adherence to proper safety regulations and safe work procedures.
  • Maintaining vehicle and on board safety equipment and instruments comply with established processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative, collaborative and achievement-oriented manner of working.

What’s required to be successful

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education.
  • Journeyman Power Systems Electrician is preferred; Construction Electrician or Power Lineman certificate will be considered.
  • Relevant and recent work experience as an Electrician.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Possess or meet the eligibility criteria to obtain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
  • Experience operating a wide variety of electrical test equipment.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), GeoFIT, Ivara and Oracle.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, maintain and repair overhead, underground and temporary single phase and three phase electrical services under 1kV.
  • Possess problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Strong organization and coordination skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven commitment to safety.
  • Working knowledge of EPCOR's Distribution system and related hazards, especially around three-phase systems, is considered an asset.
