Job description

The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Provincial Operations and Intelligence Bureau are seeking qualified individuals to join our Technical Support Section. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide analysis of statements and investigative data in support of criminal investigations. You will also review, summarize, and input relevant material and transcribe/organize identified statements/data in preparation for court disclosure.
Please note that this posting is for multiple irregular, on-call positions.

The Technical Support Section (TSS) is a highly specialized area in the OPP, comprised of members with a high level of expertise, that are responsible for providing sophisticated technical support to investigations.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will provide analysis of statements and investigative data in support of criminal investigations. You will also review, summarize, and input relevant material and transcribe/organize identified statements/data in preparation for court disclosure.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • Must be able to pass an OPP background investigation.
  • Pass typing test 45 wpm.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages—written and oral. Languages to be identified based on the operational needs of the section.
  • Required to work shiftwork.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to provide data entry and transcribing services for investigative units.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, including word structure, spelling and grammar to accurately type information from statements and investigative materials and prepare related documentation.
  • Knowledge of information logging and cataloguing procedures within restrictions of the software system.
  • Proficient in computer software use (Microsoft Suite) with typing and keyboarding skills to transcribe statements. Knowledge of police terminology.
  • Listening and analytical skills to gather relevant information and precisely transcribe statements and data verbatim from various sources.
  • Oral communication, interpersonal skills, and composure to convey relevant and timely information often sensitive in nature. Ability to obtain and clarify information, receive direction and feedback on work product. Ability to collaborate with and work in a cooperative manner with other monitor/transcribers on assignments.
  • Problem solving skills to recognize errors and to check and verify accuracy of transcribed data and documents and to follow up and correct where appropriate.
  • Critical Thinking, analytical and reasoning skills to respond to unforeseen demands and changing priorities as multiple requests are received.
