Job description

The Danish Canadian National Museum is located in Dickson, Alberta and tells the story of the Danish Canadian experience from the Vikings at L'Anse aux Meadows to present day. Located on 14 acres of grounds, the site includes three historic buildings, two reproduction buildings, a replica Viking ship, formal gardens, walking paths, the Saga Cafe and gift shop. The Museum is an immersive experience allowing visitors to step into the saga and learn about Danish culture and history.

The Cultural Experiences Coordinator will work with the Museum manager to plan Cultural Experiences available at the Museum for the summer season. This position will work closely with the Manager and Volunteer and Events committee to coordinate Cultural Experiences offered at summer special events. This position will offer the student opportunities to build skills in programming, event planning and logistics, and working within a team environment with the manager, volunteers and other summer staff. The Museum will benefit from having a dedicated employee overseeing the cultural experience aspect of the Museum's programming which will allow for consistency and quality.

The successful candidate must be eligible for Young Canada Works funding and should have food/kitchen experience and a desire to learn about Danish culture and cuisine. Studies in Hospitality and Tourism, History, Education, Communications or Anthropology are preferred. Summer Staff will start on approximately May 10 and be employed for 16 weeks. Employment is reliant on grant funding.
