Museum Registrar

The Lucan Area Heritage and Donnelly Museum has operated since 1995 working to conserve and exhibit the history of Lucan, the surrounding area, as well as the prominent figures and stories within.

As a Museum Registrar with the Donnelly Museum, candidates will have the opportunity to learn and/or sharpen a number of skills related to the heritage sector and beyond. The candidate will work with the museum staff and heritage board to help expand and complete our digital catalogue of artifacts, archives, and photographs, as well as digitize these items. In addition to this, they will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of museum operations as they will also work with our visitors providing tours and operating our museum gift shop, assist with maintenance and preparation of exhibits, operate our escape room fundraiser, and all other sundry duties related to the smooth and effective operation of a historical museum.

The ideal candidate will be computer literate with a facility for learning new programs and applications, be able to communicate effectively both written and orally in English, and be a reliable and responsible worker, adaptable, and able to work both independently and in a team environment. A positive attitude and the ability to provide a quality visitor experience is a must.

Though not necessary, study, experience, or interest in the fields of history, public history, museum studies, conservation, library studies, and other related fields would be an asset.

The Donnelly Museum is in Lucan, ON, a rural community with no access to public transit. This position cannot be worked remotely, and so staff will be responsible for finding their way to the museum.

Additionally, as this is a Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations funded position, applicants MUST meet the following criteria:

• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
• are legally entitled to work in Canada;
• are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
• will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
• have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
• intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
• Will be available to work Wednesday through Sunday from May 8th, 2024 until August 25th, 2024

Salary: $16.55 per hour
