Position Description

Department: Employment and Training

Reports to: Manager, Immigrant and Settlement Service

Location: Hamilton, ON

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Start Date: TBD

Contract End Date: March 31, 2023

Posting Date: January 25, 2023

  • Coordination, promotion and administration of specialized technology-related sessions;
  • Identify and assess overall newcomer population issues/needs with regard to online and blended learning models and create a curriculum to teach digital skills and educational sessions;
  • Responsible for producing the eLearning courses and programming within the LMS courseware;
  • Provide newcomer women with computer literacy training and help build their technology skills
  • Integrate multimedia and other assets into courseware;
  • Create storyboards and prototypes;
  • Package courseware for delivery onto LMS;
  • Work with subject matter staff to provide consult and modify Virtual Slate for integration of eLearning tools/plugins accordingly including web conferencing, attendance & progress tracking, URLs & external tools, SCORM packages, assessments, quizzes, assignments, H5P, Wiki, customized e-certificates & badges and more to enhance the functionality of LMS;
  • Research settlement-related topics to inform content creation;
  • Conduct ongoing research to integrate open-source web resources into LMS;
  • Work closely with program staff for content creation and to establish processes and procedures to streamline content development;
  • Orientate the non-technical audiences on the use of LMS including program staff and clients;
  • Provide training sessions to introduce program staff to technical concepts and help build autonomy to modify the courseware independently for content editing;
  • Facilitate, develop and evaluate group/individual training with regard to LMS courseware utilization;
  • Create a step-by-step training guide for staff to follow as a reference for any upcoming content creation and tool integration into LMS;
  • Create a simplified step-by-step guide for non-technical clients to follow as an easy reference to navigate LMS-led activities and benefit from all the tools and resources it offers;
  • Understands and incorporates emerging trends, leading practices, and industry professional standards;
  • Provide project reports to the manager as required;
  • Ensures compliance with all YWCA Hamilton's policies and procedures including confidentiality of client information;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton’s mission, vision and values;
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 37.5 hours. per week

Qualifications

  • Completion of 2 years of college in the area of instructional design, education, curriculum development, online teaching and learning, or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 2 years of online course design experience, curriculum development, or related experience within the Social Services, LINC Blended Learning or Settlement Sector;
  • Fluency using eLearning content development tools (such as: Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Avenue, and Blackboard) for creating instructional media (such as interactive activities and presentations, video, and multimedia) required, (Work samples or a portfolio will be reviewed during the interview process);
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in the immigrant and settlement sector;
  • Knowledge of settlement services and issues for newcomers and experience working with immigrants;
  • Moodle Educator Certification (MEC) or LearnIT2teach Advance Certification is an asset;
  • Strong ability to create and implement project plans within given timelines;
  • Must have skills using MS Office programs including Excel and Word;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to work;
  • Must provide a current Judicial Matters police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Bilingual English/French or another language is an asset.
