Job description

DUTIES
  • Maintain FM inventories in storage facilities.
  • Shipping, repackaging and verifying outgoing materials from storage.
  • Receiving, repackaging and verifying incoming materials for storage.
  • Ensuring that all materials are appropriately packaged, identified and documented in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Monitoring storage capacity to ensure that sufficient storage remains available.
  • Conducting periodic inspections of inventory to monitor packaging integrity, verify item counts, check accuracy of information, etc.
  • Assisting IAEA and CNSC inspectors in routine and non-routine inspections to satisfy safeguards and security obligations. (Assistance includes, but is not limited to, presenting requested items to the inspectors and taking samples for inspectors.)
  • Assisting with preparation and movement of fissionable material between MBA’s at CRL.
  • Advising on appropriate fissionable material packaging, identification, and movement in accordance with approved storage procedures; and
  • Advising on proper documentation in accordance with the Nuclear Materials and Safeguards Management (NM&SM) Compliance Program.
  • Preparing, reviewing and maintaining procedures as required.
  • Supporting and engaging in all IWC walkdowns and creating necessary JHA / RWP documents for tasks.
  • Completion of all required training for qualification of Nuclear Materials Storage Technician, along with training identified to support heavy water upgrading work
  • Repackage, ship, and receive radium into storage.
  • Updating and verifying inventory records of radium in storage.
  • Supporting shipping and receving of heavy water drums.
  • Loading and dispensing of heavy water into an out of the heavy water upgrader.
  • Supporting day to day operations of the heavy water upgrading system.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology or equivalent formal education; or
  • Secondary School Honour Graduation or its equivalent, plus a minimum of three years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and standard CNL software is required.
  • Be experienced in the safe handling of Nuclear Materials and be familiar and knowledgeable in methods and precautions required for safe handling of Nuclear Materials.
  • Be physically capable of lifting, handling, etc. various items on a regular basis.
  • Be knowledgeable in the rules and principles relating to criticality control.
  • Be knowledgeable in AECL Safeguards policies and requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable in basic nuclear material accounting practices.
  • Be able to correspond with management, supervision, customers, and regulatory agencies using tact and good judgement.
  • Have good manual dexterity.
  • Be able to set up and operate a variety of electronic, radiation monitoring, and mechanical equipment.
  • Possess initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Possess good record maintenance skills.

Security clearance eligibility required: Level 3 Top Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
