- Provides personal care to patients such as assisting a patient with bathing, grooming, dressing, care of skin and hair, toileting and other activities of daily living; assists patients with mobilization routines and other related activities.
- Performs procedures such as taking vital signs, including weight, application and removal of condom urine drainage and obtaining specimens such as urine; applies non-sterile dressings and dermetological medications to intact skin, emptying foley catheters and established ostomy bags and measuring Intake and Output as required.
- Assists patients to meet their nutritional needs by serving and collecting meals and offering supplements as appropriate; observes patients' ability to eat and assists, as necessary.
- Documents patient care, according to established procedures, and reports concerns, problems and/or changes to the Registered Nurse; participates in patient care conferences; provides input to the revision of individual care plans on an ongoing basis.
- Transports/transfers patients utilizing mechanical aides such as wheelchairs, mechanical lifts and stretchers.
- Maintains the tidyness of patient rooms, including bed-making; cleans equipment used in patient care such as commodes, bedpans and wheelchairs as required.
- Prepares body for the morgue as required.
- Answers telephones and relays messages as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
